Breathing New Life into Edale Methodist Chapel
Our Aims
We are working to restore, renovate and bring new life to this precious place.
Our primary aim is to make this Grade II listed building fit for purpose in the 21st Century. By installing essential facilities (water, heating, accessible toilet, kitchen) we can increase access and use beyond our current capabilities, developing the chapel’s potential as a spiritual and artistic resource for local, visiting and transient communities.
Our aims:
To offer visitors solace, a place to reflect and refresh themselves away from their busy day-to-day lives
To increase the opportunities to worship throughout the year, including collaboration with the local Anglican church
To develop an events programme for all ages, focusing on music, arts and crafts, local environment, ecology and sustainability issues and projects
To tell the story of the chapel’s history and place in the landscape through interactive displays and community focused activities
To open the chapel to individuals and groups, creating a ministry of presence through workshops, retreats and residencies
Our Plans
In order to achieve our aims we need to restore the fabric of this historic building, restoring and re-opening the original gallery and doubling present capacity; install a water supply and accessible toilet; install ecologically appropriate and sustainably sourced power and heating; install basic kitchen and storage facilities.
We will work to develop more community engagement, creating a small first floor office housing the Edale Society’s archives and artefacts, with space for anyone wishing to conduct research and an artist-in-residence.
We will create an open space with eco-stove at the front of the worship area for smaller gatherings, create a sensory social gardening area with drinking fountain, increase access with parking for up to eight cars and improve signposting and information about public transport and footpaths to the chapel.
How You Can Help
None of this work will be possible without continued donations from our friends and supporters. If you would like to help Edale Methodist Chapel fulfill its full potential, please give what you can. Thank you!
